# What is GPT-6 with Intelligent UI, and what changes for everyday ChatGPT users?

**Answer:** GPT-6 is now the model behind ordinary ChatGPT conversations for every plan, rolling out to paid users on October 7, 2026, and to Free and Go users from today. It brings Intelligent UI, which lets answers include charts, buttons, forms and small working tools instead of text alone, and it can start answering before it has finished thinking.

Yesterday, Wednesday, October 7, 2026, OpenAI began rolling out **GPT-6** in the Chat tab of ChatGPT for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise subscribers. Starting today, October 8, the rollout reaches the Free and Go plans too. Until now, the GPT-6 generation was available only to paying customers. This release is aimed at what OpenAI says are more than 1.2 billion weekly ChatGPT users.

The most visible change is a new answer format called **Intelligent UI**. "UI" stands for user interface: the buttons, menus and screens you interact with. With Intelligent UI, ChatGPT can build a small interface into its reply when that helps more than a paragraph would.

## What Intelligent UI looks like

OpenAI trained GPT-6 to compose replies out of text, pictures and interactive pieces, and to decide for itself how they fit together. A reply can now contain:

- **charts and diagrams**, including ones you can tap to explore;
- **buttons and forms**, for choices or inputs;
- **small tools**, such as a calculator or a game, that work right inside the conversation.

The format depends on the question. A comparison may appear side by side; a hard concept may arrive as a clickable diagram; a simple question still gets a simple text answer.

OpenAI's launch demo breaks down the design of a seven-speed bicycle: you tap the frame, wheels, drivetrain, brakes or handlebars to see what each part does. In another example, BetaNews describes, the old model answered a Sunday-dinner request with mostly text and one table. GPT-6 Instant added photos of each dish, a shopping calculator that adjusts quantities as you change the number of guests, a cooking schedule you can tick off, and a button to copy the shopping list.

## How it works

Behind the scenes, OpenAI built a **library of ready-made interface components**, such as chart, button and form pieces designed to display well on web and phone. GPT-6 decides which pieces to use and how to arrange them. A **compiler**, a program that turns a description into something that runs, converts the model's layout into real on-screen elements while the answer is still being written. That is why parts of the interface can appear progressively instead of all at once at the end.

The training changed too. OpenAI says it graded the interfaces the model produced for clarity, usefulness and completeness, so the model learned when interactivity helps and when plain text is better. The company admits the model's design sense still has room to improve.

## Answers that arrive sooner

The second change is about waiting. **Reasoning models** think before they answer, which helps with hard problems but means you stare at a spinner. GPT-6 can now **interleave** thinking and answering: it gives you a first useful response, keeps reasoning, then follows up with more detail. OpenAI trained it to take your waiting time into account while keeping the full answer coherent and accurate.

By OpenAI's own tests, on questions that need a web search, the wait before GPT-6 Instant starts replying is 44% shorter on average than with the GPT-5.6 version, and is better at deciding when a search is worth running.

## Who gets which model

| Plan | Model behind Chat | Available from |
|---|---|---|
| Plus, Pro, Business | GPT-6 Sol | October 7 |
| Enterprise | GPT-6 Sol, if the workspace admin allows it | October 7 |
| Free, Go | GPT-6 Luna | October 8 |

**Sol** and **Luna** are two tiers of the GPT-6 family: Sol is the stronger everyday model, Luna the smaller, cheaper one. OpenAI says it tuned both for everyday chat. The update covers only the Chat tab; the models in ChatGPT Work and Codex stay as they are. According to OpenAI's help page, cited by BetaNews, the feature works in browsers and current mobile apps, but older desktop apps for Windows and macOS do not support it.

On safety, OpenAI says GPT-6 inherits several protections first developed for its flagship model, GPT-6 Astra, and better resists attempts to get around its safety training spread across several messages.

## A worked example

You do not need a special command to get an interactive answer, but asking for one clearly helps:

```prompt
Make me a simple tool to split a restaurant bill between 5 friends.
Let me enter each person's meal price, add a shared tip percentage,
and show what each person owes.
```

GPT-6 may return a small form with five fields, a tip slider and a running total. You can change a number and see the result update, without asking again. If you would rather have the math written out, say so: "Just explain it in text."

> **Try it:** Ask ChatGPT to "explain how compound interest works, with something I can adjust." Change the interest rate or the number of years in the tool it builds, and check one result by hand with a calculator.

## Why it matters

For most people, ChatGPT has always meant reading text in a chat window. GPT-6 changes the shape of an answer itself. A plan can be a checklist you use; a lesson can be a diagram you explore; a small problem can come with its own tool. OpenAI describes this as a step toward software that adapts to people rather than the other way around. It also puts the GPT-6 generation in front of free users for the first time.

## How do you get the most out of Intelligent UI in ChatGPT?

Ask for what you want to *do*, not just what you want to know. "Help me compare three phone plans side by side" or "give me a quiz I can tap through" invites an interactive answer. When you want a tool, describe its inputs and outputs in a sentence, as in the bill-splitter example.

Check the numbers before relying on them. An interactive calculator looks authoritative, but it is still built by a model that can make mistakes, so test it with one case you can work out yourself. And if the interface gets in the way, simply ask for a text answer; GPT-6 is designed to use plain text when that serves you best.
